Is cuid de thraidisiún ealaíne Chorca Dhuibhne anois é Fhéile na Cásca, taispeántas ealaíne bliantúil a reachtáltar do ealaíontóirí an cheanntair. Beifear ag leanúint leis an dtaispeántas seo toisc an ardán a thugtar d’ealaíontóirí ar bheagán costais. Mealltar ealaíontóirí go Corca Dhuibhne agus filleann ealaíontóirí ar an bhfód dúchais go minic, mar shampla, Liam Ó Néill agus Tomás Ó Cíobháin. Dá mhéad taispeántaisí a bhíonn ar siúl i gCorca Dhuibhne, níl ceann ar bith chomh pobalbhunaithe le Féile na Cásca.
Tá Féile na Cásca bunaithe le daichead blian i 2013. Traidisiún is ea an ócáid ina dtugtar cuireadh d’ealaíontóirí an cheantair a gcuid saothair a thaispeáint.
Bíonn breis is céad ealaíontóir rannpháirteach i mbliana – roinnt acu an-aitheanta ar nós Maria Simonds-Gooding, Liam Ó Néill agus Tomás Ó Cíobháin agus a thuilleadh ag tosnú amach mar ealaíontóirí.
Is i Scoil Dhun Chaoin a bhí an chéad Féile na Cásca. Bhí trí thuras ag físealaíontóirí (le tacaíocht Ealaín na Gaeltachta) chuig na scoileanna le linn mí Feabhra chun oibriú le daltaí agus múinteoirí ar chur i láthair físiúil ar an áit ina raibh an turas. Is iad seo a leanas na físealaíontóirí a bhí i gceist – Lone Uí Raghallaigh, Áine Uí Dhubhshláine, Andrew Duggan, Domhnal Ó Bric agus Susan Ní Chearna. Deineadh sárobair in am ana-ghairid – agus an toradh ar fad le feiscint ar an Máimín i mBaile an Fheirtéaraigh.
Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne is pleased to announce that this year’s Féile na Cásca or Easter Art Exhibition is 40 years old! The first exhibition was held in the national school in Dún Chaoin when the then manager of Comharchumann Forbartha Chorca Dhuibhne, Micheál Mac Giobúin invited the Dún Chaoin based artist Maria Simmons-Gooding to exhibit her work. Maria agreed but two conditions. The first being that the painting ‘Dwellings’ 1 should be in the exhibition as it encapsulated everything about this landscape as she perceived it at that time. The second condition was that everyone with drawings and paintings would be included in the exhibition as well as the National Schools of the area. An so Féile na Cásca came into being.
A feature of this year’s exhibition (and all Féile na Cásca exhibitions) is the participation of local schoolchildren. They have visited many local archaeological sites in the environs of their schools with archaeologist Isabel Bennett. Local artists Lone Uí Raghallaigh, Áine Uí Dhubhshláine, Andrew Duggan, Dómhnal Ó Bric and Susan Ní Chearna worked with teachers and pupils in preparing their responses to the visits – with help from Ealaín na Gaeltachta. Their work is exhibited at Féile na Cásca 2013 along with the many other participating local and national artists in many art forms.

Introduction to Shibori with Margaret Walsh 20 April ~ 10.30am to 4.30pm
Shibori is a Japanese resist-technique on fabric in which a pattern is securely tied into the fabric using various methods of folding, twisting, pleating, wrapping, clamping or compressing. The fabric is then dyed, resulting in unique patterns being created on it. Participants will be taught the basics of Shibori. They will be guided through a variety of resist techniques on fabric: folding, pleating, wrapping, gathering, clamping, etc. They will then dye the fabric, achieving unique patterns. Each participant will dye eight or nine samples approximately nine inches square.

From our beginnings in Niall Naessens’ etching workshops two years ago, we have grown to the point where we are working to open a fine art printmaking studio in Dingle.
In the past six months, Meitheal Eitseála has established a steering committee, established a company, outlined a program of membership benefits and application requirements, and worked to shape budgets and identify funding, making lists of the equipment we will need. We have taken the plunge and rented a studio space on John Street in Dingle, where we plan to hold functions and fundraisers to promote our goal of a fully equipped print studio for West Kerry.
We are not quite ready for membership applications, but hope to be soon. As we go on, we will keep you updated on our progress, including exhibitions and workshops. We hope you will find them of interest, and hope even more that you will become a member or supporter of Meitheal Eitseála. Visit us at the studio on John Street where we have artwork on the walls, lockers for storage and large dreams for the future.
